Anime Review - Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni / In Another World With My Smartphone

Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni | In Another World With My Smartphone

[The post contains spoilers, so read at your own discretion.]

Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni is a Japanese light novel series which got an anime adaptation in 2017 of 12 episodes. We've all heard and seen many anime protagonists who due to some unfortunate accident get isekai'd to another world
and are shown to possess unparalleled powers - well, this anime is one of those.

Plot: In a thoughtless blunder, God accidentally strikes down Touya Mochizuki with a stray bolt of lightning! As an apology, God offers him one wish and the chance to live again in a magical fantasy world. Touya happily accepts the offer and, for his one wish, asks only to keep his smartphone with him as he begins his journey into this mysterious world.

Starting over in this new world, Touya finds it is filled with magic—which he has an affinity for—and cute girls vying for his attention. These girls—the twins Linze and Elze Silhoueska, Yumina Urnea Belfast, Leen, and Yae Kokonoe—provide Touya with no end of romantic frustrations, but also companionship as he discovers the secrets of this new world. [Written by MAL Rewrite] [Couldn't be bothered to write my own plot summary. Thank you, folks at MAL.]

However, there is one thing that sets this anime apart from those ones and that is in my opinion, this anime is crap.

While the anime presents various new ideas that you may have not seen before and a few you-know-what scenes ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), it fails to draw in viewers into it. I remember lying on my bed trying to watch episode 1 of the anime, only to find myself wanting to drop it there. The one big thing you'll find yourself questioning is while watching the show is 'Eh. This is "To Another World With My Smartphone", right? Then why the fuck does the smartphone have so little or no significance
in the plot??'. If there's anything Touya Mochizuki's iPho- I mean smartphone has helped him do anything worthwhile, that would be peeking on the big tiddy twin.

Slime Castle - Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni

One other thing I was put off by was the addition to Mochizuki-kun's harem. One after the other, the dude manages to pick up some girl and make her fall in love for her. I know what I said may make it seem like I'm jealous, but I'm not.
I'll say it again, I'm not. Not at all. Ahem - anyways, by the end of the first season he manages to score five chicks and that's just the start. As foretold in the anime, he will end up with a harem of 9 girls and Leen is going to be one of them.

I for one don't like harem anime and 'Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni' is a prime example why. The Heroines in the anime fall in love with the protagonist when there's nothing appealing about them except for their good personality.
Personality does matter but if that's all that mattered, most of us would have partners, but unfortunately that isn't the case. There should be proper development of the relationship between the girls and Mochizuki and they should spend some time together before they fall in love with him.

The anime did start to pick up at the near end when it was revealed the world faced a great danger due to which the future could not be predicted by the creator of Babylon, Regina Babylon but went downhill again when he had to face the choice of marrying his love slaves. Despite that, the anime does surprise us with a few new ideas like, Null Magic and how ingenious the hero can be. With the anime ending foreshadowing a terrible future the was in store for the characters it does make curious about what will happen. For those feeling the same way, it's to the light novels for us since there has been no news of a season 2 for the anime and frankly, there is little hope for it.

All things said, I would give the anime a 5 or a 6 out of 10.

That's a wrap, folks. While the anime may not be all that great, the girl were and I would definitely tap ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

Top 5 Anime of Summer 2019!

Top 5 anime of summer 2019

Hello every reader who's reading this right now. It's Draco here and i wantdd to talk about what i think is the top 5 anime for this summer of 2019. Every anime watcher is biased with what they watch as many genres come in complexity even in their own genre due to the vastness of art style,CGI,Voice acting, character creation,plot-and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Even with these biased opinions,i will tell you about my own biased opinions, but i will also back up my own opinions and convince you too to think the same as me. I think i have said what i wanted to say so we can start with the list. One final thing to note is that the order of these was thought out for a good while (for a whole week actually, and it was not easy),so please don't spam the comments with "why did this score so high/low" or "why did this make in the list" and "why didn't this make in the list".

I will set 3 rules for this to narrow the competition (because if i didn't,it'd almost be too obvious who'd win).

Rule 1:Continuing anime are banned!:

Anime that are airing a new season are banned. However if a anime with only one season on this list gets a new season in the future, that's allowed (since the new season didn't air at the time of this post,.even if a new season of the anine was announced,it's not out at this moment so we will allow it to be on this list).

Rule 2:Movies,OVAs and special episodes are not allowed!:

If an anime has a movie,OVA or special,we will not count those into our anime list and will not affect the placement of the anime. This will surely make many fans aggrevated, but this is to make anime who have no OVAs and such a certain fairness (Eromanga-Sensei had an amazing 2 OVAs and Re:Zero movie that aired last year was also amazing, not to mention the Bnha movie...you can see what i mean).

Rule 3:Only anime!:

What i mean is if a anime on this list had a game, manga, light novel or some other form of media to it,we would not count that in. This is purely the opinion of the anime and any other media will not affect the outcome of it.

Ok,these rules might if been self-explanatory,but not everyone here would know that...so yeah.

Now that we are finally here,i am going to show you my top 5 anime for the season.

(I only watched these shows and have done do deep analysis or research so any of my statements might be entirely wrong-if i researched them beforehand it'd feel too fake and i hate that,so don't hate this post TOO badly, only enough hate to ban an anime in mid-season.)

Number 5:Arifureta:From Commonplace to world's strongest

Wait, don't jump the gun! Sure, the anime's lines were so bad i could die,and the plot is just too generic and...it makes me shiver at times.
But what we can thank is the amazing animation team and the VCs (Voice actors) that put their all into this and made this so amazing!
Arifureta starts with a magic world...and that's preety much all about the first episode! The end!

Jokes aside, the anime starts off with a young person (Our MC-Main character) who is in a bit of a pinch as he's going to be turned into skewered lamb chop. After seeing a (pointless, but cool) scene about a wolf, rabbit and a bear (any resemblance? I see none...heh) duke it out,the outcome is...wait i'm wasting time here!

The MC is cornered by strong monsters here and he is very weak. As he wails about his weakness,we see a flashback (like 4 of them in the FIRST episode of the anime) in which his whole class-Btw he's like 15 or something (?)-they go to a dungeon to gain battle experience. With The MC being weak and his class not being a fighting class at all, hisonly power being "Transmute" which apparently changes the shape of certain materials, ores apparently.

After beating a monster, one of the (dumb) classmates touches a rare ore used for accesories, which leads everyone into a trap against a behemoth. The captain of the knights (who was keeping safe of the kids) put up a barrier spell to protect the kids, but it was instantly broken. Now their only hope is the MC,who braverly uses his powers to give everyone a chance to escape. This leads to him being betrayed by a certain person, leading him to the situation he is in now-The place with the monsters.

There's more to the episode, but i think i got the main point of this anime.
It shows a dark side to it,with a tinge of hope-which is quickly lost. The hope the MC lost will be regained throughout the series as he meets new people, explores many different places and changes from a useless person,a hatred-filled one and finally turns into a strong, kind hero-like persona, only to lose it all again.

Everything i said up to now was how i saw it and may entirely be wrong, but it's nice to see a new opinion from someone once in a while.

The reason this anime got into the list has several reasons:The battle scenes that aren't really too impressive, but accompanies the series well, the voice acting which makes shiver, the nice opening and the dark plot which gives you a small bit of hope.

I just hope this anime gets the appeciation it deserves.

Number 4:Wasteful days of highschool girls

Man,did this show just did what i think it did?!

Sure,a classic all girl high-school plot with the girls having fun-But ad that with a hopeless, plain otaku ,a emotionless straigth man type and a Baka-you get them. And their nicknames as well. With them is other girls who might as well be called main characters as well.

Only thing i can say about it:its comedic.
You have the teacher who's all into "College girls" ,the Chuunibyou character, the total weirdo, and get this-A HONEST TO GOODNESS LOLI!

**FBI on my door,shit!**

This anime has a solid plot behind all the comedy. The character creation really stands out and the Opening really gets you going!

The week the anime came out i instantly watched it and DAMN it got into my season's favorites. Sadly, this is as good as comedy, ordinary highschool anime go. It is by no means a ordinary anime-it's super good! Still, putting this anime any higher than this might be as well as insulting the other amazing anime that came out this season (I also kinda insulted Arifureta by this).

Mix Grand blue and Tsurezure children's comedy and you get this anime-you can see why it's here now, though this is my opinion only.

Number 3:HenSuki:Are you willing to fall in love with a pervert,as long as she's cute?

Wait, wait! I did not put this in here because there's a imouto (little sister) involved! It was only 92% why i choss it!

See,it's fair. Ouch, stop it! Stop throwing the hate around! Even i wouldn't put it here if it was no good. Let me tell you about HenSuki (Hentai Love-Whethee it means "I love hentai" or 'Hentai is who i love" or just "This is Hentai love" i can't say for sure, but it can be any of them).

RomComs start with a misunderstanding,or more like there's a mystery (Common and popular examples are Yamada and the 7 witches,Nisekoi and The quintessential quintuplets) behind it all,and it captivates the reader. In this case, the mystery is a love letter...with a pair of pure, silky panties, just waiting to be brought back by the prince to Cinderella (The show's refrence, not mine.)

The MC just WONDERFULLY receives a love letter in the club room with a neatly folded pair of white, pure panties (the pureness is completely lost in this case XD).
With the advice of his good friend soto...sao...sugi... (damn i forgot the friend's name...well i have a horrible memory, blame me!)-whatever his name was, let's call him "Blondiken" (Blond+ikemen...let's call him Blondie afterall).
With the friend's advice,he slowly inspects the only girls who could had done it-which were the 3 girls who were cleaning. Then the list goes up to the student council member...then it goes to another member...then a fake loli appears-it's a hectic love comedy, only for the ~~best~~ worst outcome to come (hehehe).

A cliche, but not cliche romcom, with a STRONG dose of the "Hentai" we see in the male cast. The manga was amazing, but damn does the anime portray some strong stuff.
Even if you aren't the strongest fan of love comdies or harems,i could not give recommendation to a better love comedy then HenSuki for this season.
(Count all the love comedies this season-Lol).

Number 2:Dr. Stone

"..."

"HOLD IT!"

All the Ace attorney fans go

But i be like

"OBJECTION!" Because that ain't happening.

Dr stone on number 2! Face it,it is an long-awaited one and it sure hell deserves number 1,but that was only AFTER the number 1 anime came that i chnaged my mind, which you will see why soon.

The anime for Dr stone is much better than the manga (Which is practically impossible to believe until you see it for yourself) and there is a good reason for it. An phenomenon that turns every living thing into stone is not something than can satisfy you alone...so let's add a muscleheaded sports protagonist,a Heroine (who the MC has a big crush on) who is...well plain in my eyes, and we have a freaking scientist who COUNTED OVER WHAT,3000 YEARS?! Who cares about the exact amount,he counted second after second-for more than 10,no,5 seconds! What a mad lad! (NuxtTaku don't hit me sir!).

And soon on the plot thickens. The antagonist comes into play, many new things are discovered in the new world that has changed so much from everyday Japan (everyday world, but that sounds like a mouthful),with new civilization. It's like a new experiment you'd see on TV like "Can this blender mix chocolate AND an unopened coconut and make a NEW flavor!?

...No,probably not in all honesty.

Dr. Stone, with your amazing voice acting and wording, the plot being genuinely interesting to the max,the animation that doesn't stop amazing you and just the sheer complexity of it all gives this a rating around 5 times greater than the 3rd spot.

Now let's give a title to something that ALSO is 5 times better than Dr. Stone, which i suspected to be just "Good" considering it's manga format, not even being able to reach the top 10 list, but here it is.

The anime made this number 1 spot anime so good,it honestly shocked me.i started jist yesterday and i instantaneously binged all the episodes.

Number 1:The ones within

Top Anime of The Summer 2019

When the manga for this came out last year, the concept was interesting-But the manga was SOOO BORING!
And i am a fan of game-like scenarios, especially with Room escapes, mystery solving and a hint of romance and tragedy-and i loved MC's who were just too kind to believe it!

The manga didn't impress me at all though,so i never expected it to amaze me or be an anime! I stood corrected.

"The ones within" is a show with a simple goal: "Gain 100 million views". It wasn't a simple goal, but it was simple to understand.

Some of Japan's most famous Let's players were invited to a game (Each spicalizing in their best genre of gaming) where they had to gain 100 million views. The only problem was that they were in a real life situation where they could **Die** at any point of the game.

I could talk hours about this anime, for hours on,so let's short it by...99.5% of it. Seems about right.

The host is a mysterious person with an Alpaca mask, and he is not very friendly.
Living in a house with other "Let's players",possibly containing a spy from the Organization's team, who keep track of the game and stream the let's players's every movement in the game (Let's call them Players from now on).

With harsh conditions, betrayal, mystery, deception, decision making and fear all around them, the show gets exciting after each episode, but that alone doesn't beat Dr. Stone.

The voice acting fills the characters with life and passion, the animation and music give a whole different view from different anime, giving it a unique, but very exciting feel.

It's too exciting to stop watching midway, and you will feel sadness after finishing this (maybe, since none of these shows are over at the moment).

Will this change? Possibly, since all of the shows stated above aren't even halfway done, but we suspect it won't. This list doesn't mean that the other anime aren't good or that they are better or worse then other anime this season. I only gave my opinion on the season,so if you have your own view on it-i don't care. Write a blog about it and show it to other people. I did this with what i thought and i'm not wrong with this placement when it comes to my taste. If you want a more brief analysis on any of the anime listen here or any other anime airing this season, let me know and i will do a full review of it.

Please do share this,so that other people can see (and hate on it XD). It would mean alot to everyone on the team. Check our other content when it's out,and until then-

"Thank you for signing in,and peace out"

Draco (and Co's) anime & cafe blog!

Welcome everyone to the Anime blog!
As blogs go,anime is on the minor side if we don't count Honey and a few others. I want to share my opinions and alongside that make commotions, fight over opinions and make theories that have no sense whatsoever but might be true!
This blog will feature the classic anime and manga, with novel, memes, stories of our real lives and whatever else we want to add. We won't nitpick with rules or behavjors hear-we only ask for minimal good behaviour. Don't insult people who only meant good or only said their opinion. If they are hurt by that behaviour i would be saddened, but as long as everyone's fine with it i see no problems about anything. Just be sure to never post anything that shows 18+ content (grotesque, hentai, irl porn, images or words that might upset people).
