Anime Review - Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni / In Another World With My Smartphone

Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni | In Another World With My Smartphone

[The post contains spoilers, so read at your own discretion.]

Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni is a Japanese light novel series which got an anime adaptation in 2017 of 12 episodes. We've all heard and seen many anime protagonists who due to some unfortunate accident get isekai'd to another world
and are shown to possess unparalleled powers - well, this anime is one of those.

Plot: In a thoughtless blunder, God accidentally strikes down Touya Mochizuki with a stray bolt of lightning! As an apology, God offers him one wish and the chance to live again in a magical fantasy world. Touya happily accepts the offer and, for his one wish, asks only to keep his smartphone with him as he begins his journey into this mysterious world.

Starting over in this new world, Touya finds it is filled with magic—which he has an affinity for—and cute girls vying for his attention. These girls—the twins Linze and Elze Silhoueska, Yumina Urnea Belfast, Leen, and Yae Kokonoe—provide Touya with no end of romantic frustrations, but also companionship as he discovers the secrets of this new world. However, there is one thing that sets this anime apart from those ones and that is in my opinion, this anime is crap.

While the anime presents various new ideas that you may have not seen before and a few you-know-what scenes ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), it fails to draw in viewers into it. I remember lying on my bed trying to watch episode 1 of the anime, only to find myself wanting to drop it there. The one big thing you'll find yourself questioning is while watching the show is 'Eh. This is "To Another World With My Smartphone", right? Then why the fuck does the smartphone have so little or no significance
in the plot??'. If there's anything Touya Mochizuki's iPho- I mean smartphone has helped him do anything worthwhile, that would be peeking on the big tiddy twin.

Slime Castle - Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni

One other thing I was put off by was the addition to Mochizuki-kun's harem. One after the other, the dude manages to pick up some girl and make her fall in love for her. I know what I said may make it seem like I'm jealous, but I'm not.
I'll say it again, I'm not. Not at all. Ahem - anyways, by the end of the first season he manages to score five chicks and that's just the start. As foretold in the anime, he will end up with a harem of 9 girls and Leen is going to be one of them.

I for one don't like harem anime and 'Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni' is a prime example why. The Heroines in the anime fall in love with the protagonist when there's nothing appealing about them except for their good personality.
Personality does matter but if that's all that mattered, most of us would have partners, but unfortunately that isn't the case. There should be proper development of the relationship between the girls and Mochizuki and they should spend some time together before they fall in love with him.

The anime did start to pick up at the near end when it was revealed the world faced a great danger due to which the future could not be predicted by the creator of Babylon, Regina Babylon but went downhill again when he had to face the choice of marrying his love slaves. Despite that, the anime does surprise us with a few new ideas like, Null Magic and how ingenious the hero can be. With the anime ending foreshadowing a terrible future the was in store for the characters it does make curious about what will happen. For those feeling the same way, it's to the light novels for us since there has been no news of a season 2 for the anime and frankly, there is little hope for it.

All things said, I would give the anime a 5 or a 6 out of 10.

That's a wrap, folks. While the anime may not be all that great, the girl were and I would definitely tap ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).
